"Al Nicoll, was born South West England and grew up on very much hands on farm. This gave him access to learning about behaviors of plants, animals and also experiencing the adventures that so much space, like woods and stream could offer a boy.
Al clearly recall’s when he learnt to Ski at age five. Al’s parents took me out of school early, to go Skiing what an eye opener and that sparked inspiration to travel and explore, Al eventually too picked up a love of Surfing. When Al was injured and could not surf he was led to investing more time into his photography skills. Based in the Canary Islands at the time, this allowed him to begin working for several Spanish Surf Magazines.
Not only does Al have a love of the ocean, travel and surf lifestyle but, growing up in the English country side Al developed a love and interest in wildlife too. He went to get his BA in Zoology and Marine Biology.
Throughout the travels the travel editorial photographer developed.
Al Nicoll is now an international and locally recognized and respected photographer. Al studied, Photography at the Bournemouth Arts Institute. During this time he won 2 Awards, The Observer Newspaper “Student Sports Photographer of the Year” award and The Kodak Association of Photographers Award in the “Sports Editorial” category.
When he came to South Africa, Al signed a contract with popular Surf magazine Zig Zag and worked with the brand for five years. This proving to him after winning the Kodak Association of Photographers Award that this would be the career path he was going to choose.
Al has worked on the MAMMA’S 2014/15, Loeries 2015, ULTRA Music Festival, the MTN Celebrity Shootout, and artist tours including but not limited to, Snoop Dogg, DeadMau5,Skillex Avicci, Goldfish, Passenger, George Izra, Cassper Nyovest, Mumford & Sons
He has also had the pleasure of working with clients like, Men’s Health, Goldfish, Media24, Durban Tourism, Jump City, The Comrades Marathon Association, The Cell C Sharks Township Tours (Durban Tourism), and Impi Concepts, who run the 2016 Splashyfen Music Festival, one of South Africa’s longest and oldest running music festivals".
