I’m Ian Walker and launched Borders Journeys in 2012 to provide friendly private guided sightseeing and ancestral tours of Scotland.
I recognise that for many of you this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit Scotland. My emphasis is upon making your stay welcoming and an experience you’ll enjoy and always remember.
Your tour with me is a wonderful way to discover the beauty, history and culture of Scotland. In addition to visiting the classic sights, I’ll also take you off the beaten track. You’ll visit historic towns, walk in the grounds and ornate rooms of fairy-tale castles plus marvel at the magnificence of Scotland’s lochs, mountains and coastlines. In rural towns and villages you’ll find beautiful local crafts, including traditional woollen and cashmere products as well as sublime home baking in a charming tea room. After a delicious dinner in a local pub or restaurant, unwind in a comfortable bed and dream about tomorrow’s adventures.
My hobbies include photography, travel, genealogy, history, reading, music and theatre.
Have you ever wondered where you come from and what stories lie in your family history?
I can help. Simply tell me what you know so far and I’ll not only give you research advice but will investigate your Scottish ancestry on your behalf. I’ll research your family history with commitment and enthusiasm, connecting the dots to form a real picture of who and where you come from.
As well as years of expertise in ancestral research, I’ve at my disposal a wide range of historical and genealogical resources including the ScotlandsPeople Centre in Edinburgh, local and private archives and online resources. Where possible I’ll visit the area where your ancestors lived and photograph their home, local church and headstone, offering you an insight into their lives. On completion of my research, you’ll receive a comprehensive ancestral report.
Do you want to walk in the footsteps of your ancestors?
I’ll design a tailor-made ancestral tour especially for you, taking you on a journey of discovery where you’ll connect with your Scottish ancestors by walking in their footsteps. Your ancestors will be brought to life when you learn about the people, places and traditions connected with them. By the end of the tour you’ll have gained a real insight into your ancestral heritage and where you came from, which you can share with present and future generations.
