About me

I currently straddle two worlds: I'm a travel writer (print and digital articles, content development) and I also work in polar expedition marketing (video scripts, travel brochures, blog writing). While I occasionally write on urban travel (sussing out cool neighbours) my main passion lies in the outdoors. I write a lot about hiking, nature, sustainability, transformational travel. I'm also a Certified Hike Ontario hike leader. In 2019 I coauthored a nature guide book "110 Nature Hot Spots in Manitoba and Saskatchewan: The Best Parks, Conservation Area and Wild Places." I contribute to various Canadian and U.S.-based media brands.

Why did you join the community?

Networking, connecting with travel brands that haven't been on my radar so far

What is your favorite travel destination?

The Arctic, Nepal, India, Haida Gwaii in British Columbia, Jordan, small-town Canada, Iceland, remote Quebec. You just had to ask!

Where do you dream of traveling to?

South Georgia Island (in the Antarctic), Japan (for hiking and coffee houses) and the Faroe Islands.

What was your first travel job?

While working at Toronto Life as a young gaffer, I was sent to Finland – where I discovered it looked much like my home province of Ontario, minus the herring at breakfast. The Finns kept assuming I was Russian. Could never figure that one out.

What do you want to learn more about?

How to produce (and use) short video effectively. Secondly, what travel content works best for destinations, properties, DMOs today compared to 5 or 10 yeas ago.

Three words that describe why we should travel?

Travelling should help us: LEARN (about others and ourselves); RESPECT (our differences); and be INSPIRED.
