Flatdogs Camp is a safari camp with a difference! It has an incredible position on the banks of the Luangwa river, right next to the South Luangwa National Park, in its own conservation area which is teeming with impala, puku, elephant and giraffe.
The camp offers a mix of different accommodation to suit all budgets and types of travellers. The very special Crocodile Nest is a private two bed-roomed tented house with its own private pool, looking onto the river, which comes with a private vehicle and guide for your safari activities. The Jackalberry Treehouse is a totally different just just as private two bed-roomed, open-fronted reed & grass house built around four beautiful live Ebony trees, looking onto a waterhole which attracts game all through the dry season. Both of these private "houses" suit people who would now like to be "away from other guests" in their own secure and private environment. In a similar way, our two bed-roomed chalet houses suit families perfectly as there are four stone walls and the kids can walk through to their parents’ room without having to go outside at night. The more traditional luxury safari tents are set in prime positions along the riverbank and have all you need for an “Africa under canvas” experience – large gauze windows along the length of the tent so you can see the elephant browsing right next to you and the hippo grazing just outside. The standard tents are just as comfortable, just a little smaller than the luxury tents but still with en-suite facilities, full beds and bedding and large mosquito nets too.
The food at Flatdogs is renowned in the safari world as we have an excellent a la carte restaurant serving a wide range of meals all through the day, so guests can come and eat when it suits them. The delicious range of options caters to all tastes and dietary requirements! We have separate gluten-free and vegan menus available.
Safaris from Flatdogs Camp are led by expert guides who have studied all facets of the natural world they work in. They can explain in detail the inter-locking ecology of the Park which is one of the few undisturbed natural wilderness areas left in Africa. The guiding from camp is exceptional and the value for money found at Flatdogs unbeatable!
