About me

Tim Richards is a freelance travel writer based in Melbourne. His work has appeared in newspapers, magazines and websites around the world, and in Lonely Planet’s guidebooks. He’s the author of two books about rail travel: Heading South from Fremantle Press, and Ultimate Train Journeys: World from Hardie Grant. Other books by Tim include The Kick of Stalin’s Cow, about travels in Poland, as well as the fantasy novel Mind the Gap. In 2026 Hardie Grant will publish Train Europe, Tim's guide to 20 great train itineraries across that continent.
