About this event

Athens Urban Adventures, supported by Urban Adventures Global and Travel Massive Athens, invites all professionals from the Travel Industry but also tourism students to join Athens #TourismForAll Challenge, which is going to take place on the 29th of January in Athens.

What is Athens #TourismForAll Challenge?
Athens #TourismForAll Challenge is a half day-long interactive competition, where local and international tourism professionals team up with students from the universities of Athens, to develop unique trip itineraries that can serve the needs of foreign and domestic travelers with mobile, sight, hearing and communication impairments.

The winning travel experience (tour) will be incorporated into the offer of Athens Urban Adventures private tours after the event. 10% of net proceeds from every experience sold will be then collected to fund disability organizations, including advocacy groups and charities that provide services to people with disabilities.

The aim of Athens #TourismForAll Challenge is to:
*raise awareness about the problem of accessibility in tourism
*bring attention to the needs of travelers with mobile, sight, hearing and communication impairments;
*find creative ways of providing the best experience for travelers with disabilities, regardless of the lack of proper infrastructure;

About the event:
On the day of the event, participants meet at the NJV Plaza Hotel (2, Vasileos Georgiou A’ str., Syntagma square, 105 64 Athens, Greece) conference room at 14:00. Each team receives a description of its challenge and location.
All participants sign up to the event in advance and are randomly split into teams of 3-6 people

Challenge: To create a half-day trip itinerary for people with a particular type of disability (mobile/ sight/hearing/communication)
Location: a specific area/neighborhood around the city center where the tour should take place

Teams will have time to get to know each other and start discussing their strategy and ideas at the venue at the beginning of the challenge.

Then, all groups move to the designated locations and have time to work on the itineraries “in the field” (check the routes, talk to the vendors, etc.) AND work on mini snapshot-videos.

In the end, teams will have time to write put their ideas into writing down and edit the videos.

As an end result, each team will be asked to present:
A written itinerary with a full tour description, inclusions and suggested pricing (we’ll provide a template)
A 3 min video - snapshot from the tour

All teams will be invited to present their results at the Travel Massive event in the evening, where a special jury will choose the winning proposal.
