The tourism sector has a big opportunity to contribute to creating green cities for a greener future! Recently, from the UK, Prince Charles and his wife Camila came to Heraklion and when given a ‘Greek coffee’ they removed the plastic straw. Increasingly, other discerning tourist couples from around the world are doing the same. Tourist service providers need to change their buying habits now and shift from buying one time plastic items to the many ecological and sea-safe products available on the global market.
In addressing this challenge in Crete, we are delighted that the European Sustainability Academy (ESA) is an official EU GREEN WEEK 2018 event partner.
Between 21 – 25 May events will take place to raise awareness about excessive plastic waste in Crete and explore alternative solutions, including a 4-day Bamboo Bike Ride between Rethymnon and Falasarna with stops at towns to encourage people to #MakeCretePlasticFree
Come and join us on ‘Bamboo Bike Ride Crete’ to meet the bike makers and riders. Try the beautiful high-performance bamboo machines and discuss eco-innovations to reduce or reuse plastic.
The programme starts on Monday 21st May at ESA Drapanos.
