Ancient Odysseys provides travelers with the opportunity to take part in a paleontology or archaeology dig while traveling. We work with scientists from around the world to develop dig programs-many of which are exclusive, having never-before been available. Each is a true scientific endeavor where travelers can work on-site, right alongside professional researchers as the ultimate "citizen scientist.”

Hello! I'm Marisa Rodriguez, the Founder of Ancient Odysseys, a website where travelers can experience the thrill of discovery by joining REAL paleontology and archaeology digs around the world.
I started Ancient Odysseys for people like me — travelers who are interested in contributing to science, while being able to give back to our understanding of life that preceded us on this planet.
I hope you'll come along on an upcoming expedition and Dig into the Adventure!
Thanks for sharing Ancient Odysseys with the Travel Massive community!
I’m not familiar with fossils (although I studied Geology for a term) so hopefully this is a valid question - do “new” dig destinations and places pop up every year? If so, what are the latest places to visit?
Hi Ian and thanks for reaching out. The answer is sort of complicated. There are general locations that fossils are always found, but paleontologists usually choose to dig at a site where there is something significant/recognizable bone that they want to unearth. So, yes, new locales for fossils can pop up every year. Some of the places we're working on that are BRAND NEW for travelers are: the Karoo in South Africa which has some of the best known fossils preserved from one of the earth's mass extinction events. There is another site in South Africa in the Cradle of Humankind which will allow travelers to excavate hominid fossils that are the ancestors of Homo Sapiens!
Hi Marisa this is awesome! Would you be interested in creating a community for your "digs" in our Map Your City app, it'll also give you the opportunity to add a map to your website. Love to support your venture, since we (contrary to what our name indicates also got some parks related communities) and I personally just love this stuff. Let me know and we'll schedule a chat.
Thanks for the note! Let's talk. Your app could be a great way to help spread the word about our locations.
Sure thing! Send me a message here or to caroline@andrs.nu and I'll send over some calendar options.
