Originally from Bristol in England, from a young age, I have been obsessed by all things wild. My love of wilderness and adventure in wild places was consolidated by my father, who as a keen mountaineer, fisherman and photographer, delighted in dragging his young son up wet and snowy hills, sit for hours in a boggy hide waiting for osprey or spending the night sat under an umbrella at a lakes edge waiting for our fishing lines to buzz. As I grew older it was no longer necessary to drag me to these places.
Through numerous outward bound courses or just independently my teenage years were spent canoeing up Scottish lochs, sailing up estuaries in Wales or on expeditions through the mountains of the remote west highlands of Scotland.
It was, therefore, no surprise to anyone when I gave up a successful career in media to move to Africa to become a nature guide!
After qualifying as a guide in Timbavati, I spent 4 years working first as a trails guide at Transfrontiers Wildlife Walking Safari's and then for a stint at Africa on Foot both in the Klaserie and the Timbavati game reserves in South Africa.
From there I decided to explore up into Africa where I managed a busy tented camp in the heart of the photographic sector of the Selous game reserve in southern Tanzania, where I also did the in-house guide training.
Staying in the Selous game reserve I then went on to work at Beho Beho as GM and head guide.
As a guide I have a passion for walking safari's and I am also a keen wildlife photographer. I am always planning the next adventure for me and for others.
These adventures have taken me all over Africa and the world, guiding wildlife safaris, on walking expeditions, lying in wait on wet rocks to photograph that rare animal when it appears or just taking in the scenes of stunning wildernesses.
I now run my own company (On Safari-in.com) creating once in a lifetime safaris, tailormade to suit the varied needs and preferences of my guests.
I want to join because I am passionate about ethical and ecologically sound travel and wish to make connections that have similar ethos within the ind
