Hi, I'm Tara!
I'm always looking to connect, learn, be humbled, grow, and try something new. I'm really into chatting with folks in the sustainable travel space, in fact nothing inspires me more!
I'm based in Brooklyn, and love biking all over the city. I also love carbs, so any excuse to bike for pizza, bagels, dumplings, etc you can count me in.
Please say hello, or better yet, if you are local, find me at the next NYC meet up.
Hi Tara, thanks for sharing Conscious Travel Collective with the Travel Massive community!
What's the travel startup scene like in Brooklyn? Any tips for fellow founders building sustainable tour companies?
Hi Ian!
I'm just so grateful to be in the NYC area, this is a great place to be in general, but the travel community here is remarkable!
I have found that the sustainable travel community in NYC to be so very supportive. The generosity of others sharing connections, making introductions, suggesting resources and offering advice has been tremendously helpful, and just makes me feel so good about our industry.
In 2020 and 2021 I spent so much time connecting over zoom with people around the world, and these contacts have been just as supportive. I have to admit, getting back in person feels different. I'm weary to focus too much on circling the globe for quick in person meetings due to the negative impacts of air travel, but I can say that the local community in person meetups have been so uplifting, and validating. I can't deny the importance of meeting face to face.
To other founders I would say get out of your office and go speak with people. I look for mentors outside the travel space as well, and connect with folks involved in all helms of sustainability. For example, we have a new Zero Waste store in my neighborhood where I'm a shopper. I've connected with the owner to gain insights into the demographic, and hope to set up a community discussion on sustainability. We have a huge resource in the city, the opportunities to learn, and offer insights back to your community are truly endless.
Hi Tara,
I'm all about sustainable travel, too! Would love to chat and see if there's room for some collaboration. Feel free to email me at hilary@yugenearthside.com if you're interested, and we can schedule some time.
Amazing job with your site, by the way!
Hilary
