Hey travel & foodie lovers! I'm Igor, a passionate traveler and foodie who loves exploring new places through local cuisine. Over the past few years, I've relied heavily on YouTube videos to discover great local foods and hidden restaurant gems when traveling. However, I found myself spending hours compiling Google Maps lists, which became tedious and time-consuming.
So, I decided to create LocalBites (localbit.es) — a website that simplifies this process by curating all these recommendations into one easy-to-use platform!
🌟 Why LocalBites?
With LocalBites, you can:
> Instantly find authentic local eats featured by trusted foodies.
> Discover hidden gems and trendy dishes wherever you travel.
> Save hours of hunting through videos—get quick, geo-tagged recommendations at your fingertips.
I'd love your feedback to help make LocalBites even better!

Excited to hear your thoughts!
Hey Igor,
I love the concept! The videos really bring those places to life. I have so many questions / comments!
- Is it just a fun side project or are you planning to monetise it? and if yes, how? Food is such an important aspect of a trip but it's often very difficult to make money out of it
- How is the food score calculated? Are you planning on adding Google reviews for these places? I think this is important
- I would personally want to understand what are the most typical dishes at any destination first and then be able to find the best places serving them. Maybe group together the places that offer the same dish (for example in Rome, you have multiple times Amatriciana and Carbonara in your carousel at the top).
- Not a fan of the AI-generated images, I would either show the real dishes or an emoji/icon instead (icons could probably help identify places faster with pictures on the map too)
- Do you plan to somehow add filters for different diets? I'm vegetarian and one of my biggest pain point when travelling is not finding a hotel or a flight, but finding these cool restaurants serving tasty vegetarian dishes. I literally spend hours on Google Maps every single trip and I would pay a few $$ to get a curated list of 15-20 restaurants matching my criteria
- You should cover London next!
Thanks for sharing your work with the community!
Hey Benoit, love all feedback and questions.
Yeah, for now it is a a side project, I still haven't thought about how to monetise it yet.
Food score is calculated based on reviews, the comments in the video, all through an AI model. It might need some refinement.
You hit the nail on the head with your comment of understanding what are the typical dishes first and then finding the best places. It is an approach I also do, and I felt that is what was missing in the site. It is a probably something I would add next. Like must try local dishes, and top 10 places to have them.
Yes, I would add filters once I get a sufficient number a places on the platform.
I live in London so London will be coming soon :).
