I wanted to share my experience meeting British explorer and author Levison Wood and the fascinating stories he has shared with me, I hope you enjoy.
I recently had the incredible opportunity to meet Levison Wood, renowned adventurer, author, and storyteller. Known for his daring expeditions to some of the world’s most remote and wild places, Levison’s genuine passion for nature and conservation is truly inspiring.
Levison’s latest project, a book about trees ("The Great Tree Story"), takes readers on a journey through the history and significance of trees across the globe, from ancient forests to the role trees play in Indigenous cultures. During our conversation, he spoke about how researching this book led him to some incredible stories of hope, including the efforts of people worldwide working to protect forests and wildlife. It’s a refreshing reminder that while the challenges are immense, there’s so much good happening in the world as well.
What struck me most about Levison, aside from his adventurous spirit, was his down-to-earth nature and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Whether he’s in the Amazon learning from Indigenous communities or trekking through the Arctic, he approaches every encounter with a deep respect for the cultures and environments he explores. He shared insightful stories about his journeys, including the resilience of nature, the fascinating underground communication networks among trees, and the vital importance of reconnecting with our natural world.
Levison’s travels have not only taken him to remote forests but also through the heart of conservation efforts, such as working with groups protecting the forests of Ukraine amidst ongoing conflict. He’s also been involved in a number of documentaries that showcase the need to act now to protect our planet.
