I’ve always believed that when you bring together a group of truly amazing people, something brilliant is bound to happen. Whether it’s ideas, inspiration, or lifelong connections, magic happens when like-minded individuals come together.

My wife and I started travelling together in 2003 and we have visited more than 100 different countries since then. When travelling, we love exploring unknown places, mixing with people and contemplating different lifestyles. Every time, we take something back with us that is incorporated into our daily lives and jobs becoming better people and better professionals. We came across many other travellers over the years, amazing people with incredible experiences, and it's been a while since I realised that these people develop valuable skills along the way. General knowledge about Geography, Languages, Religion, Politics, History, Culture, Ethnics but also personal and interpersonal skills such as Research and Planning, Time Management, Problem solving, Ability to Learn and Adapt, Context Awareness, Optimism, Resources Optimisation, Innovation, Positive Attitude, Humbleness, Teamwork, Leadership, Communication, Networking, Diversity, Empathy, Emotional Intelligence, Body Language and Storytelling. All very valuable in the business context. I wonder if there is a business to build over these foundations.

So, here’s the experiment: I want to gather a group of “awesome” people—those who have visited 100+ countries—and see what happens. Why? Because such a milestone speaks volumes about curiosity, resilience, and a true passion for exploring the world. Who better to brainstorm with, share perspectives, and collaborate with than those who have experienced so much of what our planet has to offer?

The goal? To create a business together.

It could be an idea born from our shared knowledge of the world, something inspired by our travels, or a concept none of us would’ve thought of alone. The possibilities are endless when you combine global perspectives and entrepreneurial spirit.

If this sounds like you, let’s connect! Drop a comment or send a message, and let’s see what kind of brilliance we can create together. Whether it’s a travel service, a digital product or simply exchanging ideas, I’m convinced we can turn this into something extraordinary.

Are you ready to test this idea?

Have you checked www.extraordinarytravelfest.com and nomadmania.com? Might be a good place to connect well-travelled people.

Hi Lezka,

First of all, welcome! And great to have a fellow software engineer around here :)

Maria mentioned a few communities and I'd agree they might also be places to explore your idea, if having gone to 100+ countries is your criteria.

Another group to think of is the digital nomad community. Actually this group seems to be a bit more entrepreneurial than the 193 crew because they are aiming to earn a living while travelling, too. The pure country counters are a bit more of a diverse group of people driven and funded by various means.

Maybe you should combine both!

There's also a lot of great entrepreneurs out there who might have only been to a handful of countries. And it has a lot to do with your passport power... so maybe you could have a few different criterias to establish "worldliness".

With a lot of people from around the world involved, I imagine you'd need a simple business model that addresses a global need. I'd be interested to hear the business pitch if you get to one!

I agree with Ian, it's not necessary to keep '100 countries visited' as a requirement. All the best!

I'm intrigued by your idea to create a business among well-traveled people. I have to admit though that I was turned off by the 100+ country requirement. More countries visited doesn't necessarily mean someone is more curious. I like to travel with depth and breadth. For instance, I've visited Portugal 3 times within the last several years and explored different cities and landmarks each time. In any case, I wish you well on your vision.

you guys may be right, I'll relax on that one, it just sounded as a romantic ambition at first

that's true, let's put the 100 countries aside for a minute and see what kind of business we could create, I'll add a new comment to the main thread

Having traveled extensively in only a third of your criteria, I agree that different benchmarks should be included. Digital nomads are an incredibly talented and entrepreneurial bunch. Not all are land-based either. Some, like my husband and I, lived onboard our boat, exploring the countries of the Caribbean for four years, during which we met tons of people just like us. Most of us want to dig deep into the culture of a community, attuning ourselves to the unique community vibe and really getting to know the people.
At the crux of every encounter with people is the question, "can I have a relationship with this person and what might it look like? How can I contribute to them and their community."
Though we are back to being land-based, we still feel connected to the communities and the people we met. Our lives will be forever changed by the relationships we established. And travel is still a crucial element of our lives, whether it is exploring near our home, across the nation, or overseas, meeting new friends, and immersing ourselves into their culture will always be a part of who we are.
I think your project sounds amazing, and I am sure that there will be an overflowing of ideas. I'd love to keep up with the progress.

Happy New Year everyone, I wish you a 2025 full of interesting destinations and journeys in all senses of the world 😃
Many of you touched on the 100-countries requirement and you are probably right. It felt like a romantic idea at first but it is true that it doesn't necessary mean better and if we are going to build a global business we would rather have people in different areas with passion and expertise for regions that they know and have explore more deeply as opposed to touch the surface of more countries. Let's just adapt the premise and say that the group we form has visited and has expertise in over 100 countries combined! I also think is a good sales pitch 😉

The next step would be to brainstorm some ideas. I have a few of my own but not to influence the conversation too much from the start, I'd like to hear from you. What could be some products/services that we could offer globally that set us apart in a overly crowded sector by using our local and global expertise in travel/toursim/culture ?
