MBA Sustainable Leisure and Tourism Development, Hilfswerft gGmbH
Hello everyone,
I am 27 and currently graduating my Master in Sustainable Tourism Development and I would really love to work in that field. As it is quite difficult to find a job I thought I ask for swarm intellligence!
Have you any recommendations for job options or companies / organisations?
So far I worked for 5 years in the field of Social Entrepreneurship and bring experiences in event- and project management.
Hi Henni - I am currently working on a platform for carbon accounting for tour operators. I am seeking help with calculations and other bits and pieces; let me know if you want to chat. Thanks
I would also advise you my dear that if you need to seriously start out a career in that field, you can seek out for volunteering opportunities at first and accumulate hands on experience.

Yes, the experience thing is kind of a problem right now as I already have experience but in a different field. The problem with volunteering is the question of salary as I have high living costs due to rent etc... but of course nothing comes from nothing. That's why I was seeking for recommendations.
Great that you're so brave and open-minded for seeking different opportunities!
I don't know specific companies that are hiring in the field right now, but I will share with you a few resources you might keep an eye on:
Female Factor - They have a mentorship program for female leaders running now: www.femalefactor.global - They might have other opportunities posted regularly (not in the field but something might come up)
Social Entrepreneurship Competition in Tourism (I'm working here now) - We have a great pool of Jury and Mentors from the industry - all related to social entrepreneurship in tourism. I'd say have a look at their profiles and connect with them directly asking for either opportunities in the field or advice for finding some: socialtourismcompetition.com/jury
– We started creating an Opportunity Board for social entrepreneurs, still very early stage but we will try to keep it up to date with job, learning, volunteering, grant opportunities: socialtourismcompetition.com/opportunities
Prof. Claudia Broezel is a prof. of Sustainable Development in Eberswalde University – do you know her? Maybe you can also connect and reach out for some advice: socialtourismcompetition.com/about-us
Travel Writer/Photographer, Have Glass, Will Travel
I can't be of much help since you're in Germany (and I'm not!), but look at this article, which may give you some ideas and directions to pursue. I'd think a year working at a resort and a year with a CVB (convention and visitor's bureau) or Chamber of Commerce (PR for a city) would give you valuable experience and contacts while also helping you define what you want to do next. Maybe even an organic winery! Do that, and bring me in to write about it! :-)

Hi Henni, would you be willing to travel and stay in developing countries? I have something for you but would include living in Kathmandu, Nepal.
That would depend :) You can DM me for details
