Our team is working on a new travel app. Using the latest technology, we’ve created an iOS app that partly replaces audio guides.

Right now, the app has these features:

🌍 Explore landmarks in augmented reality. It shows what’s nearby, helping users navigate the area better.

🏛️ Listen to the story of any location. If you have questions or want to know something specific, you can ask about it and get an instant answer (AI Chat).

📸 3D photos. For some locations, you can view a 3D photo and see what the place looks like from the inside.

These features are available in 12 languages. Most stories are generated in real-time ⚡, and we’ve made sure they start playing as quickly as possible. If you need more languages, let us know here. We’ll look into adding them.

Soon, we plan to add more locations to the map and include more details about each place. We’re also working on a feature to create a personal walking route 🚶‍♂️ in a new city, where the guide will share the history of landmarks along the way.

We really want to hear your feedback about the app, so we’ve prepared 20 promo codes. To avoid confusion, just comment "I want a promo code", and we’ll reply with one for you.

Hey Gra and team, congrats on building your app, it looks very impressive!

A few quick questions:

1. What's the "origin" story behind Tourly, and where is your team based?

2. Is there an Android version of Tourly in the works?

3. How do you verify the information that the app presents? Does it provide the sources for facts and history?

4. Can you explain what "Immersive Gaussian Splatting View" means? I tried to look it up but got more confused!

Cheers,
Ian

Hi, Ian!

1. Tourly was inspired by a very simple question from our founder Eugene - “What am I looking at?” - for occasional business/work travelers who find themselves in a new city without any prior knowledge of its history. We started 1.5 years ago and released the first version a year ago. The team is international, with the HQ in Turkey.

2. Yes, it is in the early development stage

3. We use Wikipedia data for POIs in the app

4. One of the app's features is Immersive 3D reconstructions for virtual visiting. You can find a few POIs on the map with special 3D icons and check these experiences. It looks like a 3D photo where you can move your camera. If you’re having trouble with 3D photos, please share your experience. What was unclear or inconvenient?

I recorded the screen to show how the user experiences it in the app: youtube.com/shorts/CDEUC_aYO3Q

You can also “explore” the 3D photo in the browser:

Looks very interesting! Congrats on the launch
